What is your dream home like? When you think of “home,” where is it?

I was born in Philadelphia where generations of my relatives had lived before me. Living in Philly began my love affair with cold, wet weather. Moving to Miami, my family called 4 very different places “home.” Since our wedding, Buzz and I have wandered around, calling Philly, Hollywood, FL, Nashville and finally Atlanta “home.”

Today, we live in my dream home. After 30 years, it still seems like “the new house” and there literally is not a morning I wake up that I’m not thrilled to be living here.  We designed, built (oh how we worked!) furnished and decorated it. To me, it is warm, cozy and inviting and we have been blessed to share this place with lots of friends and family.

Why then am I a little restless…not fully, totally content here?  Could it be that I’m longing for my real Home? The Home I’ve been looking for all my life? Home with my Savior, Jesus?

Heb. 11:16 But as it is, they aspire to a better land, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

New JerusalemWhen I first saw this NASA photograph taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, it boggled my mind.  Do you think this could possibly be The New Jerusalem? Probably not but it does make me scratch my head. Because if God is outside our dimension of time, the new heavens and new earth are already a reality to Him! [Queue the Twilight Zone music.]

As you know from reading this blog, my passion is end time prophecy; trying to understand the times in which we live and how they apply to Scripture describing the End Times.

When we fellowship with other believers, we often talk about how wonderful our Watcheternal Home will be. We’ll have endless time to visit and catch up because there will be no “time.” We won’t have tears, sickness, pain or death. But sometimes I think we just polly-parrot these words without seriously thinking about the reality of them.

Take just a moment to pause here and think. Can you imagine not having time? Try as I can, I can’t begin to imagine. The ramifications of not being in “time” are staggering.

Can you imagine what it will be like when we see Jesus?  Literally?  Can you imagine how overwhelmed we will be by His sacrificial love gift of not only eternal life in the future but abundant life here as well? Because I can’t comprehend such glory, I tend to not really think deeply about it. But why not?

At this Christmas season, when we can find a few quiet moments of reflection, I hope we’ll also think beyond the manger, beyond the cross to what’s ahead. We truly are pilgrims and strangers here on Planet Earth. The little chorus reminds us that “this world is not my Home, I’m just a passin’ through…” What a glorious. overwhelming, incomprehensible truth this is!

In the past, because my position is in agreement with the Pre-Tribulational Rapture, I’ve been good-naturedly chided for “wanting to escape” what might be ahead of us or warned that I’m not taking advantage of opportunities here on earth because I’m too invested in eternity.

Wanting to escape? Oh yeah! Guilty as charged. Who in their right mind wants to go through terrifying times?

But I do take issue with those who think I’m sitting around twiddling my thumbs, waiting. To the contrary. Because I believe we could hear The Trumpet any moment, I’m trying to take advantage of every opportunity I can. Time is so very short.

I guess one of my all-time favorite go-to verses is Rom. 8:18
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

Even though I know Jesus was probably not born on December 25th, I hope each of us will use this season to thank Him for, among other things, leaving Glory for us. As we face another new year, let’s continue to encourage each other with these thoughts. I believe we will be in our real Home soon. Very soon!

While this video may not appeal to some of you, the words of one of my favorite songs, “Where I Belong” perfectly communicate what I’m talking about. Enjoy!

I hope each of you has a Blessed and very Merry Christmas!

P.S. Stay tuned for next year when I’ll get into more controversial prophetic things!
